So over the weekend, I noticed SavyGamer.co.uk post "Titanfall, PC - £11.84"

Like you guys, I had a look at Titanfall when it launched and decided to wait it out... but £12 is worth a punt. £19 for the game and the Season Pass. Simply use a Firefox extension to make the site think you're in Mexico. Easy.

Before I parted with my cash, I had a little dig around some gaming sites. Most opinions were positive and the devs were still supporting the game... oh, and then there's this:

Download was 25 gig, install space was 52 gig. (HUUUUGE portion of this is down to the audio files. 35 gig of uncompressed audio, in fact.)

Into the game I go... where I'm forced to do 20 minutes worth of tutorials.
At first I'm a little annoyed at this. "I KNOW HOW TO RELOAD!" But then it starts throwing proper lessons at you. These lessons will save your life via the parkour style free-running system.
(You're also taught how to enter and pilot your Titan(s), but that's pretty simple too and down to play-style more than anything.)
You use double-jumps and vertical walls to string together jumps. Sounds a bit gimmicky but in-game it's great fun and very very useful. Players who master this will dominate the "standard" run n gunners.



I guess the first game people will compare it to will be Call of Duty. I found the CoD-series to be incredibly dull after MW2. I would play a round then drop out. Maybe return later when bored.
Next comparison would be Battlefield 3/4/Hardline. The problem with those titles is the time it takes to complete a map (and the vast array of bugs).

Titanfall has unlocks* similar to both of the above but seeing as rounds are over very quickly (10-15 minutes), and the fact that you're constantly earning points to spend and being awarded new unlocks... makes it fiendish more-ish. It genuinely has that "one more game, then I'll go to bed" feel to it.

Gameplay is simple. You start on-foot like in Battlefield/CoD but after 3 minutes you can hit "V" and call down a Titan. Killing enemy AI and players ("Pilots" as the game calls them) reduces the 3 minute timer significantly. The faster you get into the action, the faster you can jump into your Titan.
I haven't had time to look at all the gameplay modes yet but "Attrition" seems to be the default form of Team Deathmatch. The Campaign requires you to join a lobby with strangers and after 4 levels I dropped this because finding people on the same stage as me was taking too long. I was more than happy to continue with Attrition.



I think one of the stand-out things that I noticed early was the feedback.
The visual and audio feedback is great. When your shots land you get both audio and visual indicators letting you that you're doing things right. It's hard to describe but it's definitely one of those things that keeps you playing.

So yeah, if you can pick this up on the cheap, I highly recommend it. There's plenty of stuff I haven't mentioned in order to prevent this post being a wall of text.
The game was released in March so except it to crop up in a few more sales.
If the Origin Mexico sale is still on, I'd snap that up.


*unlocks are simple things like sights, suppressors, emblems etc.
